BP Orienteering Festival

On Thursday 10th June, 6 teams from St. Augustines and Saltwood Primary School attended an Orienteering Festival held at Brockhill Park.  The event took place on the back field and included a basic sprint and pace relay warm up as well as a map based Orienteering task.

Teams set off pairs to complete 4 legs finding 3 of 4 controls on the Brockhill Park map.  With much guidance teams eventually orientated themselves around the map ending with all teams frantically finding the correct controls on the map to win the top 3 places.

The event itself was great fun to observe and students seemed to really enjoy themselves despite finding some of the control points difficult to find.  One team from St. Augustines was hugely successful in finding all the control points in the designated time with the excellent leadership from Hannah Gilles.  All teams walked away with smiles on their faces, and 3 teams from St. Augustines with medals around their necks.

St. Augustines will be back next month to practice the event again in hope for all teams to be successful in finding all the control points.
