More than 100 students from Year 7, 8 and 9 from Brockhill Park Performing Arts College took part in an innovate fitness experience on Wednesday this week using X Bikes. The X Bikes allow the rider to similate the experience of riding in different terrains to include street riding and downhill mountain biking by watching a screen as they ride on the stationary fitness bike.
The bikes require the rider to use their imagination as they move the handlebars to turn, duck under trees and stand on the pedals to ride downhill whilst watching a screen of a rider completing various courses. The experience led by Ian Daniell of Trixter bikes proved a great success with both students and staff. It is hoped that the school can gain funding to introduce the sport in both curricular and extra curricular to encourage currently non-participating students to become engaged in sport.
Students screamed comments such as "this is so cool" and "can we get some of these in school" which cemented our belief that these bikes are truly inspiring. "It is so important to offer different sporting opportunities in schools to keep students interested and engaged in sport. The afternoon raised students interest and excitement in their PE lesson. The bikes are great tool to increase fitness levels and knowledge of fitness whilst having a brilliant time".
